Culinary Walk & Celebrity Sighting

Curt with our Joe's Pizza
On Tuesday, Cindy and Tami and I took the subway down to the village for a food tasting-walking tour. My friend, Donna and I had done this same walking tour in 2008 and LOVED it. I have brought a lot of people back to that same area in subsequent trips to NYC, so we were excited to do it.

Our guide, was a vivacious and funny guy named Curt. He had great stories and made us all laugh for the next three hours as he shared the neighborhood with us. I loved all the history and little trivia, but I mostly loved his celebrity stories. He's worked in a lot of restaurants, so he's come across a lot of famous people and he told the most outrageous stories about all of them. (It was more the stories than actually caring about any of these celebs.)

The food was ridiculous! So good. As Tami says, "Stupid good!" We started at Joe's Pizza on Carmine St - which I love! Then we went to O&Co - olive oil company - which is one of my favorite places. We had rice balls at Fiacco's (which is where we saw Whoopi Goldberg, up close and personal - she was literally 5 inches away from me), we had appetizers at Centro's, a cookie from Milk and Cookies, cheese from Murray's and a beautiful cannoli from Rocco's. Amazing. The tour ended up to be three hours long!

We did a little shopping downtown and then hopped back on the subway for a ride up to 81st street and the museum of Natural History. This is the museum where they based the movie: Night at the Museum. It's an amazing collection. We got there later in the afternoon and they close at 6, so we really only saw 1/2 of it - but we booked as fast as we could to see as much of it as possible. We tried to review the map and go see what we cared about most. It may be worth going back, actually!

We did a little shopping on the way home and then had a really nice dinner at Sosa Borrella. We were exhausted by the time we got home, but it was a really nice day.

PIcs to come soon- gotta walk Cindy down to the subway station. She's going to Statue of LIb and Ellis Island today!

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!
